Hailing from Los Angeles, CA, Karin has made Winnipeg her home for the past 24 years. She arrived in Winnipeg with two degrees from the Grove School of Music, songwriting and contemporary keyboard performance, as well as studying trombone performance and composition at the University of Northern Colorado. Performing locally and, for a time, on cruise ships with her bassist husband, Andy, she has a long list of bands and ensembles to her credit:
- Currently, she plays trombone in the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, the Mennonite Community Orchestra, Combo Latino, Marco Castillo's Brazilian Beats, and several Reggae bands.
- She plays lead trombone and lends her vocal talents to the 252 Concert Band, the Executive Big Band, and yearly performances with various bands for Techapalooza, a local band "competition" fundraiser. She has performed with local mainstay Ron Paley's Big Band, and renowned Reggae artist Lucciano.
- In addition to her current bands, she has performed with touring and local rock and cover bands, wedding bands, classical brass groups (duets/trios/quartets/brass choirs), and more.
- She writes and arranges for several cruise ship entertainers, local bands including Combo Latino, Marco Castillo, Luciano, and her own small jazz/cover groups (duos/trios/etc.).
Her students have gone on to major in music in University. She offers private trombone and jazz theory lessons, group brass clinics, and other subjects on request.
